The Manuscript Collection of Provins Library
The Villa Garnier is a magnificent 19th century town house that once belonged to the renowned Provins philanthropist Victor Garnier. Today it houses all the archives prior to 1789. This collection includes the finest examples of the town's written patrimony: various charters (including the 1176 charter of Count Henri the Liberal), gospels, psalm-books, and prayer books - a quantity of illuminated manuscripts dating from the 12th to the 15th century. Some of these documents have been loaned for major exhibitions held at the National Library. Villa Garnier:Phone: 01 64 00 59 60 |
