VISIT OF THE CITY

We recommend that you spend a full day in Provins. This will give your class sufficient time to adjust to their surroundings and improve their perception and understanding of the site. We offer a choice of three themed visits specially devised for school groups :

1) Mediaeval Defence

Camp militaire place Saint-QuiriaceStart at the Tourist Office, with an introduction to Provins (scale model of the Medieval town and documentary film). Detailed tour of Saint John's Gate (Porte Saint-Jean), the fortified walls and Caesar's Tower (Tour César). In addition to explaining various construction and restoration techniques, the lecturer-guide will also provide an introduction to the systems of attack and defence in the Middle Ages.

2) Everyday Life in Mediaeval Times :

Start at the Tourist Office, with an introduction to Provins (scale model of the Medieval town and documentary film). Detailed tour of the Tithe Barn (Grange aux dîmes), Caesar's Tower(Tour César) and Saint Quiriace Collegiate Church. The lecturer-guide will explain the street names, the typical building styles and many other items that bear witness to everyday existence in olden times.

3) Religious Heritage

Start at the Tourist Office, with an introduction to Provins (scale model of the Medieval town and documentary film). Detailed tour of Saint Quiriace Collegiate Church and Saint Ayoul Church, plus an outside visit of Holy Cross Church (Eglise Sainte-Croix). In addition to explaining various construction and restoration techniques, the lecturer-guide will also provide an introduction to the art of making stained glass windows.

GUIDED TOURS :

The Tithe Barn (Grange aux Dîmes): "Provins during the Fairs of Champagne" A guided tour of this exhibition where old traders' booths and waxworks in traditional dress help to re-create the famous 12th and 13th century fairs.

The Underground Galleries (Les souterrains):
Starting from the superb vaulted "countess" underneath Provins Old Hospital (Hôtel-Dieu), discover a mysterious subterranean network - some secrets may yet lie undiscovered !

Provins Town and District Museum (musée de Provins et du Provinois) :
Housed in the ancient Romanesque House (Maison Romane), Provins Museum presents collections linked to local history.

Arkhangaï, horsemen of the Steppes : New show !« ARKHANGAI

Cavalcades, trick-riding, liberty horses, caprioles and dressage can all be admired during this unforgettable show!
After the performance, come and visit the exhibition about falconry on horseback.

The Eagles of the ramparts : New production!

An equestrian falconry show unique in Europe setting inside the ramparts. Through changing universes, birds of prey are in perfect harmony with horses, wovles and dromadory.

The Legend of the knights : New production!
A fantastic chivalry show whose heros are Thibaud IV, Earl of Champagne and the lovely Blanche de Castille, in a setting of trade fairs of Champagne.

The Battle of the ramparts

Historical show at the foot of the ramparts about medieval war engines, medieval arms, and soldiers and horses’ armours.

The prices shown above are for groups of at least 20 children Groups must be accompanied by the regulation number of adult supervisors : 1 adult per 8 children for infant classes. 1 adult per 12 children for primary school or college classes. Adult supervisors are free of charge.
Bus Park : 20 € for the day, to settle on the spot.
