La Grange aux Dîmes

The Tithe Barn (La Grange aux Dîmes)  The "Provins during the Fairs of Champagne" exhibition with its waxworks in Mediaeval costume re-creates scenes from this bustling commercial town that attracted merchants from both Europe and Orient during the Middle Ages.

IThe museum, housed in the 12th century Romanesque House (Maison Romane), presents collections linked to local history.

VISITS IN THE LOWER TOWN

Choose between :
1) Saint Ayoul Church where the royal door's 12th century tympanum has been replaced with a modern sculpture by Georges Jeanclos.
2) Exterior visit of the Holy Cross Church (Eglise Sainte-Croix) with its beautifully sculpted Renaissance portal plus the Garnier garden (in good weather).
3) The Waterways of Provins (Les chemins de l'eau) follows the course of the Durteint river, and is a presentation of aspects of Mediaeval health, hygiene, and crafts.

INTRODUCTION TO MEDIAEVAL CRAFTS
A choice of workshops :
1) Calligraphy : the art of refined and decorative writing.
2) Heraldry : an introductory course - make your own coat of arms.
3) Stained Glass : find out how stained glass windows are made. The number of participants per workshop is limited, all necessary materials are supplied and you can take your creation with you.

New show !« ARKHANGAI, HORSEMEN OF THE STEPPES »
The first horsemen that we know of lived in Asia, where they occupied over 5,000 square kilometres of steppe country.
Commissioned by the Emperor of China, Marco Polo travelled and traded throughout Central Asia for over 16 years. Entitled “The Description of the World”, the book written by Marco Polo after his return to Venice describes the lifestyle of these expert horsemen and the exceptional bond that existed between horse and rider - at work, at play and in war!
Cavalcades, trick-riding, liberty horses, caprioles and dressage can all be admired during this unforgettable show!
After the performance, come and visit the exhibition about falconry on horseback.

The Eagles of the ramparts (Les Aigles des remparts

Have you heard? In the Provins Rampart Theatre they whisper the legend of Bavon
the Falconer, a great 7th century huntsman once accused of stealing a white falcon.
But, as Bavon was led to the scaffold, his innocence was proved when the “stolen”
falcon reappeared in the sky. Converted to Christianity, Bavon later became the
Patron Saint of all falconers.
Discover these wonderful birds of prey, presented in perfect harmony with horses, wolves and a dromedary. Eagles, hawks, falcons, owls and vultures are your introduction to the world of Falconry.
The tales told here are an unforgettable experience for young and old alike.
After the show, visit the bird’s aviary and the wolves’ enclosure.

The Legend of the knights (La Légende des chevaliers)

In the moat of the ramparts of Provins, dive in the heart of this medieval legend which reveals you a fantastic chivalry show and takes you in the middle of the 13th century when Thibaud IV, Earl of Champagne, returns from crusades.
To save the lovely Blanche, he will have to face the forces of the evil and the terrible Morvark. In a setting of fairs of Champagne and with magnificent costumes, take place then in front of you spectacular fights given rhythm by the gallop of horses.

The Battle of the ramparts (La Bataille des remparts)

A medieval war engine show.
In these times disturbed owing to the conflicts between the important feudal lords, the brave Milon and his fencing teacher take you in the universe of fights and introduce you to the techniques of the war through a rhythmical and alive entertainment at the foot of the ramparts.
